WHEEL RESTORATION
In this section we're gonna describe the wheel restoration services we offer, and how old school wheels get restored.
There a lot of different ways of restoring wheels, and the tools that can be used vary from basic sandpaper and polish cream, to the use of technologically advanced CNC machines.
If the wheels are in decent conditions, the restoration will be easy, and you'll probably just need to add new paint and polish to the lips.
To remove the old paint you can use chemical paint stripper, or if you have access to it, the best way is use a sand blaster chamber. In this way the sand will get rid of the old paint without damaging the wheel metal and removing at the same time, all the oxidation the wheel got from the elements.
To polish the lips you start with 400 grit sandpaper with increasing steps, for example 400-600-1000-1500-2000. From 1000 grit most of the time you can already go to the finishing step, which is the polish cream.
If the wheel has very bad lips, you can start with 180 grit, but if that's not enough you may need to resuface the lips using a lathe or a CNC machine, and that's for sure more expensive.
If the lips are badly damaged and bent and your wheels are made in 3-piece, you can simply order some new lips from our "wheels & hardware" section, where you can choose the lip width of your choice and we can custom made them for you, drilled and polished!
Important considerations:
The most important thing of a restoration is to make the wheels safe to use, and at the same time preserve their beauty and style.
